Deciduous plants, which include trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials, are those that shed all of their leaves for portion of the year in botany and horticulture. Abscission is the term for this procedure. In some areas, such as temperate or polar climes, leaf loss occurs throughout the winter. Plants shed their leaves in various areas of the world, including tropical, subtropical, and desert climates, during the dry season or other seasons, depending on rainfall changes.
