A hedge, also known as a hedgerow, is a row of closely spaced shrubs and occasionally trees that are planted and trained to form a barrier or define the boundary of an area, such as between neighbouring homes. Hedgerows are hedges that are used to separate a road from bordering fields or one field from another and are old enough to include bigger trees. They are frequently used as windbreaks to improve the growing environment of nearby crops. Hedges may be used as a basic type of topiary when cut and maintained.
